“It shouldn’t take every ounce of my energy just to stay patient.”
When your child is struggling, even simple moments can feel overwhelming. You’re doing your best, but staying calm can feel like a full-time job, and the guilt when you lose your cool only adds to the weight. You want to raise kind, respectful, and emotionally healthy kids, but right now it feels like you’re just trying to get through the day without falling apart.
At Core Wellness Living & Family Therapy in Palo Alto, we offer parent coaching and support to help you reconnect with your strengths, feel more confident in your parenting, and create more calm in your home.

Who Parent Coaching Can Help

It’s for parents who are burned out, second-guessing themselves, or overwhelmed by emotional outbursts, anxiety, meltdowns, or constant pushback from their child.
You’ve read the books, tried the routines, and followed the advice online, but your home still feels chaotic, and your confidence as a parent is running low. You’re doing your best, and it still feels impossibly hard. We get it, and we’re here to walk alongside you as part of your village.
Parent coaching in Palo Alto offers real-life support, practical tools, and the reassurance that you don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
We draw from approaches like:
- SPACE Treatment for parents of kids with anxiety or avoidance behaviors
- CBT to help shift unhelpful thought patterns in both parents and kids
- DBT to support emotional regulation for both of you
- Parenting therapy rooted in child development and what’s realistic for your life
- Relational models like those from Dan Siegel and Dr. Becky
- Play or art therapy when working directly with kids

Respond with calm, even when things feel chaotic

Make parenting decisions with more confidence
When every choice feels like it could go wrong, it’s easy to overthink even the small stuff. Parent coaching in Palo Alto gives you a clearer understanding of what your child needs and the confidence to trust your instincts as you guide them.
Be more present with your child
When parenting feels overwhelming, it’s hard to enjoy the good moments. Support for parents through coaching helps reduce the noise of self-doubt and second-guessing so you can be more present, connected, and engaged with your child, even on the hard days.
Create a home that feels calmer and more supportive

Our Approach
How Parent Coaching Works
1. We take the time to get to know your family
We begin with a full understanding of your family’s story; your child’s challenges, your parenting concerns, and what matters most to you.
2. We create a tailored coaching plan
Together, we’ll develop a plan that’s realistic, personalized, and built around your parenting values and your child’s needs. This may include one-on-one sessions with your child or with you.
3. We support you every step of the way
From identifying triggers to practicing regulation strategies and communication tools, we’ll adjust your plan as your child grows and your confidence builds.
“It’s not only children who grow. Parents do, too. As much as we watch to see what our children do with their lives, they are watching us see what we do with ours. I can’t tell my children to reach for the sun. All I can do is reach for it myself.” — Joyce Maynard

Questions About Parent Coaching
Do I come to the session with or without my child?
That really depends on what’s going on and what will help your child feel most at ease. For some families, starting off with a parent present can help build comfort and trust. Other times, kids or teens do better with a little space to connect one-on-one with their therapist first. We’ll talk through what feels right for your family. We’re flexible, and our goal is always to make the process feel supportive and safe for everyone involved.
How will we know if parent coaching is actually helping?
Great question, and one we revisit often. In our first few parent coaching sessions in Palo Alto, we’ll talk together about what brought you in and what you’re hoping will feel different over time. As we go, we’ll check in on what’s working and what’s not. You don’t need to see huge shifts right away; sometimes the little changes (like fewer meltdowns or more connection at home) are the biggest signs we’re on the right track.
Is this my fault? Did I cause this by being a bad parent?
We hear this a lot, and the short answer is no. Parenting is hard. Most parents are doing their best with the tools they have, and it’s normal to feel overwhelmed when things aren’t going smoothly. Coaching isn’t about blame. It’s about coming alongside you to understand what’s happening and figure out how to move forward in a way that feels better for you and your child. You’re not a bad parent. You’re a caring one, which is why you’re here.
Will my child need medication?
If things aren’t improving and we think more support is needed, we can talk through the option of medication and connect with a psychiatrist if needed. But that’s always a collaborative decision, and you’ll never be pressured into anything that doesn’t feel right.
I’m seeing my child make progress, and now I’m wondering if therapy could help me, too. Should I find my own therapist or work with you?
